MICROSOFT RECEPTION: PROJECT OVERVIEW
CIRCULAR VIDEO WALL DISPLAY: COMPLETION DECEMBER 2011
Project Type: DESIGN AND CONSTRUCT
Duration: 6 Weeks
Project Size: Reception Area: Sydney
Originally a wish list item, the very idea of constructing such a system was not without its challenges. As the idea for the solution came after the building contractors had completed their works this was entirely up to CAVS to design, engineer supply and install. First element of design was to calculate the amount of screens required within the area and design a suitable support structure that we could achieve certification and engineering sign off for. We elected to use a stainless steel truss that was designed and built specifically for the screens chosen and the mounting points for those screens. Second element of the design process was established after discussions with Microsoft as to how they wished to use the system from a day to day scenario. How to get the information to the screens and how to change and update that information. This became as an important part of the project as the actual physical construction. It was generally decided to use Samsung’s streaming media solution and as such a suitable network with managed switch and authoring server was established. In addition Microsoft wanted the additional flexibility to add further technologies such as Kinect gesture control. Since initial integration a Kinect based gesture control has been added by Microsoft across four of the screens within the wall.
